You and your music student can earn money for your student's account! Then, you can use that money to reduce the cost of band camp or other music camps, such as Blue Lake. Your student's money can also be applied toward private music lessons, instrument repair, and music-related field trips. How can you and your family members earn money? 1) When you help out in the concession stands at Adrian home football games, your student earns $10 for each volunteer working on his or her behalf. Let's say your family of four works the concession stand for two football games. You'll earn a total of $80 for your music student(s). 2) Participating in our annual Apple Pie Sale also allows you to earn money. Your student earns $1 for each pie you or your family members sell. And more money goes into the student's account for each family member that pitches in on the day that we make the pies in November. The more you help, the more you earn. For details or to volunteer, please email Music Boosters President Laura Morris, Vice President Stacy Albain, Secretary Kristen Howard, or Treasurer Lisa Gillin. Adrian music students and their families have many reasons to be thankful. We have talented and dedicated music educators working in our schools. We have a wonderful facility in the high school’s Julianne and George Argyros Performing Arts Center. And most recently, we received a very generous donation from The Elizabeth Ruthruff Wilson Foundation. The Foundation provided $3,000 to help fund need-based band camp scholarships for students, as well as $7,000 to purchase three marching euphoniums (at right). “The new horns will replace three trombones,” said the high school’s Director of Bands Dan Kesterke. “With the increasing speed of our marching, it’s becoming harder to march a trombone safely, while still being accurate with notes and intonation. An instrument that sits in a smaller playing area can be more solid musically, while maintaining the correct marching technique and style.” Mr. Kesterke applied for the grant. “It’s really great to have an organization like the Wilson Foundation to help when public schools come up a little short. It improves the sound of our band, for sure. And they do awesome work for all the schools in Lenawee County.” Mrs. Wilson was a lifelong music lover. Before she passed away in 2001, she established her foundation to fund projects pertaining to music and the performing arts. We are so grateful for her foresight, her generosity, and her belief in the value of music and theatre education. Thank you to The Elizabeth Ruthruff Wilson Foundation.
