As a young girl, Liz Longley was a music student. Piano lessons. Guitar lessons. And like any great musician, she's still a student of music, learning with every new song she writes; every gig she plays.
Miss Longley grew up near Philadelphia, a town with a sound all its own. She moved to Boston to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Now she lives in Music City - Nashville. In her late '20s, she's already released five albums. The latest is Weightless. Both in her recordings and live on stage, Longley's voice moves easily from powerful belt to intimate breathiness as she sings stories inspired by her own life and relationships. On August 12th, Liz Longley played a show at The Ark, Ann Arbor's renowned listening room. She generously took time after her set to share the video message above with Adrian music students. Abby Costa is an AHS senior (Class of 2018) who went to Band Camp for the first time in the summer of 2017. After her great experience, she wished she had gone to camp all four of her high school years. Watch her story in the video below. The Adrian Music Boosters have a brand new concession stand at Maple Stadium, and we're very excited about it.
The stand is a major source of revenue for our schools' music programs, so it's important that we maximize its earning potential at every football game. To do that, we need music parents to volunteer at the stand throughout the football season. Working the concession stand is easy and fun. No prior experience is required. Just wear a hat or a hair net and bring a great attitude. Plus, you'll earn $10 for your music student's personal Music Booster account for each shift you work. You can volunteer for varsity, junior varsity and freshman games. See all the available dates and sign up here. Help kick off the inaugural season of our new concession stand and raise money for Adrian Music programs. Sign up now. And thank you in advance. Adrian Maples Band Camp 2017 has wrapped.
It was another week of hard work. But also, a week of great fun; a chance to grow musically; an opportunity to build lasting friendships and make indelible memories. For some, it was a first taste of independence and greater responsibility. For others, it represents another step toward making music their life's work. But for all the wonderful things band camp is, it's NOT automatic. It takes a lot of time, coordination and care to pull off this annual event. So we'd like to acknowledge a few people for their efforts on behalf of Adrian music. Thank you to this year's band camp instructors: Drew Whiting, Lindsey Parker, Jonathan Crayne, Alexa Howard. Megan Carson, Justin Nguyen, Shelby Becker and Domenic DiPetro. You'll see a few of those talented people in the video above. Thank you to our parents and chaperones: Cori Walworth, Jeff Caris, Bryan Bott, Gary Grimes and Elizabeth Maertins. And extra special thanks to our directors Dan Kesterke and Sheri Powers for planning and executing one of the best band camps in the area. All of us at the Adrian Music Boosters appreciate how willingly the people mentioned above give their time and talents in service of Adrian music students. They do good work. We're looking forward to an exciting marching season! The Adrian Maples Marching Band has been hard at work preparing for their upcoming season. Once again, band camp was held at The Amigo Centre in Sturgis, Michigan. This pair of videos shows the students in rehearsal, as a full band and in their sectional practices. |
